American College of Physicians Adds Sequel Systems as a Certified EHR Partner

Melville, NY (April 6, 2009) – Sequel Systems, Inc. is pleased to announce that it is participating in the EHR Partners Program (EPP) offered through the American College of Physicians (ACP) Center for Practice Improvement and Innovation. The EPP, designed to help physicians and their practices compare electronic health records (EHRs), is based on an extensive database of information -- including user satisfaction ratings, objective assessments of the EHRs in use, and detailed standardized pricing scenarios.
The program, currently an ACP member benefit, is a collaborative effort between ACP and participating certified EHR partner companies to provide in-depth information on the products offered by each of the vendors. ACP invites only EHR systems that have achieved certification by the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT) to participate in the EPP. Participation in this program, however, does not imply endorsement by ACP or the existence of any type of partnership or representative relationship between Sequel Systems and ACP.
“Although there are a wide variety of EHR products on the market, adoption rates remain low, especially among small and solo physician practices,” Jeffrey P. Harris, MD, FACP, president of the American College of Physicians commented. “The EPP is designed to help doctors and their practice research and compare various EHRs by providing information that would otherwise be difficult to obtain. We hope this tool helps practices narrow their list of EHRs products -, so that they can focus their attention and make the right decisions.”
"We are very proud to be affiliated with ACP’s EHR Partners Program. The ACP has taken an impressive initiative for its membership and Sequel Systems is fully committed to providing all the benefits the program proposes to facilitate the use of EHR among its members", said Irfan Iqbal, Director of Medical Informatics and Sales & Marketing at Sequel. "Being an ACP EPP vendor, physician practices will now have added comfort when selecting and implementing our product."
With President Obama’s economic stimulus package offering monetary incentives for adoption and use of EHR, there is no doubt healthcare information technology has received a much needed boost. Sequel’s strategy through its flagship product SequelMed® focuses on providing EHR software solutions that promote using health information technology to improve quality of patient care, safety reporting and data analysis and to prevent medical errors by providing built-in safety management protocols and risk-assessment tools.
Iqbal added that there are many factors healthcare organizations should consider when selecting an information technology company, such as the functionality of the product, as well as servicing and supporting or “handholding” the client organization(s) in order to facilitate the overall adaptability, transition, implementation and continued success of the client.
