Sequel Systems supports Final Meaningful Use Criteria for Electronic Health Records

Melville, NY – July 16, 2010 – Sequel Systems, Inc., a privately owned provider of Healthcare Information Systems, commends the Department of Health & Human Services on its final rule release on “meaningful use” as directed by HITECH Act, part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced on July 13, 2010 the final proposed rule issued originally on January 13, 2010. The final “meaningful use” criteria released to the medical provider community clarifies the requirements physicians must satisfy to earn financial incentives for automating and connecting practices under the HITECH Act. The final rule was accompanied by a second rule setting standards, implementation specifications and certification criteria for EHR technology. The second rule was offered to assist those physicians and hospitals who were wary of moving forward with their EHR selections in confidence to make the step toward EHR adoption.

“These regulations will revolutionize the healthcare industry and offer a clear path for clinicians to become meaningful users of EHRs. The US Department of Health & Human Services has paved the way to ease and accelerate the adoption of EHRs by reducing the meaningful use objectives from the original 25 to 15 core and a menu set of 10” said Khurshid Mughal, Chief Executive Officer and President of Sequel Systems, Inc. “Assisting our clients experience the value in their EHR and achieve meaningful use is critical. We are confident that our solutions will be certified and compliant based on the standards set forth by the Office of National Coordinator (ONC) - this is backed by our “Meaningful Use Compliance Guarantee”.

In the coming weeks, Sequel Systems will conduct outreach to clients and the general public by offering webinars and software consultation sessions. Such sessions are designed to provide physicians the tools necessary to succeed in implementing a certified EHR and meaningfully using it.
